Project Spotlight: Transforming a Shaded Yard into a Beautiful, Well-Lit Oasis
At Legacy Landscape Group, we love creating outdoor spaces that elevate our clients' homes. One of our recent projects involved a front yard with shaded areas where grass struggled to grow and a desire for lighting that would enhance the home's antique charm. Here's how we overcame the challenges and created a stunning, worry-free landscape.
The Vision
Our client wanted a lush, green yard with vibrant grass and lighting that would highlight their home's beauty, including the trees surrounding the property. The goal was to brighten the yard, provide healthy grass, and showcase the architectural features of the home.
The Challenges
The yard had a few obstacles:
- Shaded Areas: Large trees created dense shade, making it tough for grass to grow.
- Compact Soil: The surrounding trees had compacted the soil, preventing healthy root growth.
- Lighting: The client wanted lighting that would highlight the home’s antique feel, as well as the trees.
The Process
To address these challenges, we took several key steps:
- Tree Removal: There was a large tree removed to improve sunlight and soil conditions.
- Regrading the Yard: We brought in 15 yards of sand to regrade the yard, breaking up compacted soil and ensuring proper drainage.
- Sod Installation: We laid 8 pallets (3600 sqft!!!) of St. Augustine grass, ideal for the local climate and partial sun.
- Lighting Design: We chose soft, warm lighting to accentuate the home’s architecture and illuminate the surrounding trees, creating beautiful, dramatic effects.
- Worry-Free Timer: The lighting system was set on a timer, making it maintenance-free and ensuring the yard was always beautifully lit.
The Transformation
The yard now boasts lush, thriving St. Augustine grass, and the lighting creates an inviting, elegant atmosphere. The home’s architecture and trees are beautifully highlighted, giving the front yard a refined and welcoming appeal.
