Project Spotlight: Revamping the Front Landscape for Elegance and Functionality

At Legacy Landscape Group, we specialize in creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces that breathe new life into our clients' homes. One of our recent projects involved completely revamping the front landscape of a home, transforming it into an elegant, sunlit space that would enhance curb appeal and reflect the homeowner’s style. Here’s how we brought this vision to life, even in the face of some tricky obstacles.

The Vision

Our client’s goal was to revitalize the front of their home with a fresh, inviting landscape that exudes elegance. They wanted to create a space that would draw attention with its beauty while offering a welcoming atmosphere. A key part of the vision was to create an area that allowed for more sunlight, as the previous layout wasn’t providing the conditions necessary for their plants to thrive.

The Challenges

There were a few key challenges we faced during this transformation:

  • Overgrown Crape Myrtle: A large, 15-foot-tall crape myrtle tree was blocking sunlight from reaching the surrounding plants, causing them to struggle in the shade. Removing the tree, including its substantial stump, was no easy task.
  • Limited Sunlight: With the tree gone, we needed to design a layout that would work with the new light conditions—dappled sunlight—while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the yard.
  • Design Consistency: Ensuring the design felt cohesive and elegant while accommodating the new planting conditions was crucial to creating the right ambiance.

The Process

We started by addressing the major obstacle—the removal of the crape myrtle. This was a meticulous job due to the size of the tree and its deep roots. We carefully excavated and removed the stump, creating space for new plants that would thrive in the now sunnier conditions.

Retaining Wall Installation: We added a small retaining wall border to create definition and structure in the space. This also helped to prevent soil erosion and framed the plantings beautifully.Plant Selection: With dappled sunlight in mind, we carefully chose a variety of shade-loving plants that would flourish in these new light conditions. Each plant was selected not only for its ability to thrive in partial shade but also for its sophisticated elegance.Design Focus: The overall design aimed for a refined, balanced look that would elevate the home’s curb appeal and give the front yard a sense of calm, with plants chosen for their textures, colors, and graceful growth habits.

The Transformation

The final landscape design was a stunning blend of functionality and elegance. The small retaining wall added structure, while the selection of shade-loving plants provided year-round beauty. The space now thrives in dappled sunlight, with each plant chosen to create a refined, timeless atmosphere. The area now feels open, inviting, and impeccably stylish, with the removal of the crape myrtle opening up space for new life.

The Result

Our client was thrilled with the result—a front yard that feels both spacious and serene, with an elegant design that highlights their home’s features. By addressing the sunlight issues and incorporating beautiful, shade-tolerant plants, we created a landscape that looks stunning and will continue to thrive for years to come.
